We are a collection of residents living in the villages adjacent to prime agricultural and heritage land between Beccles and Bungay on the Norfolk/Suffolk border where RES have announced that they wish to erect a 232 acre solar farm.
We accept that renewable energy has a vital part to play in reducing global carbon emissions and in securing our energy independence, but we also think that other things are important too and a proper, holistic, balance needs to be struck when deciding where these farms should be sited. Food security is equally as critical, as is the preservation of the beauty, tranquility, wildlife, and heritage of our countryside. If nothing else, we hope that the literature on our website will at least prompt you to question whether the issue is more complicated than it may first seem, and perhaps, like us, you may even conclude that the cost of turning the good quality arable land between Shipmeadow, Ilketshall St Andrew and Barsham into a solar farm is actually greater than the benefits RES purport it will deliver?
We have created an Action Group to resist RES's proposed development and have summed up our mission in the phrase below:
We need to raise funds to cover the cost of the legal fees, expert surveys, independent reports and advertising that will be necessary to effectively fight RES's planning application (full details of which are available in 'The Proposal' section).
